Jefferson Chamber Helps Advance Local Park

Six week concert series raises funding for Lafreniere Park improvements

On Wednesday, the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce presented a $7,500 check to the Lafreniere Park Foundation at the Jefferson Parish Council Meeting in Kenner. The donation comes through fundraising efforts by the Chamber's young professional committee, the Jefferson Coalition of Emerging Leaders (JCEL).The Chamber launched JCEL in September of 2011 recognizing the need to retain young professionals in order to sustain a vibrant, growing community. As their first community project, the team of young volunteers created the Live at Lafreniere Sunset Concert Series as an initiative to attract attention to the qualities that Jefferson Parish has to offer. The first six-week music concert series brought an average attendance of 2,000 people every Thursday evening to Lafreniere Park.The Lafreniere Park Foundation was put in place to cultivate the public's acceptance of the Park, its value to the community and to seek funds from all avenues for capital improvements.
