Louisiana State Superintendent and Jefferson Parish Superintendent to Speak at Jefferson Chamber Annual Meeting

METAIRIE, LA – The Jefferson Chamber of Commercewill host its Annual Meeting, presented by Ochsner Health System, on Thursday,February 7 at the Crowne Plaza New Orleans Airport Hotel. As one of theChamber’s largest networking and social events, the Annual Meeting serves as anopportunity to celebrate the many accomplishments from the past year andannounce exciting plans for initiatives, events and advocacy in 2019.

The 2019 Annual Meeting Panel will focus on how strengthening a public schoolsystem can transform a community for a bright future. John White, LouisianaState Superintendent, and Dr. Cade Brumley, Jefferson ParishSuperintendent, will address more than 400 business, community and civicleaders at the event. Carrie Monica, Executive Director of Stand Louisiana,will moderate the panel.

White launched Louisiana Believes, the state’s plan to ensure every child is ontrack to a college degree or a professional career. Throughout the past 6 yearsas Louisiana State Superintendent, some of the initiatives White has worked onhave been to unify the state’s fragmented early childhood system, modernize curriculum,and professionalize the preparation of educators. He was named Louisiana StateSuperintendent in January 2012.

Dr. Brumley led the Jefferson Parish PublicSchool System (JPPSS) in adopting a district-wide Tier 1 curriculum, whichequips all schools with the highest-rated learning resources available duringhis first year as Jefferson Parish Superintendent. He also created aTransformation Network to provide extra support and resources for ourhighest-need schools as part of an equity agenda, and secured nearly $2 millionin additional funding for these students and educators. He was appointedJefferson Parish Superintendent in March 2018.

The Chamber will also present the Ambassador of the Year Award, Board Member ofthe Year Award, President’s Award and Chairman’s Award, and will recognize thechange in leadership from 2018 Board Chairman, Nick Karl of Peoples Health to2019 Board Chairman, Ryan Daul of Daul Insurance.

Networking begins at 8 a.m. followed by the program and breakfast from 9 to 11a.m. Individual member tickets are $85 and non-member tickets are $125.
